Sneak Peek
John just knew that the man was going to try to double back to 69th street to try to confuse and/or lose everyone and so turned around and went back the way he came, dodging people all the while.
John was about to head into the alley he was positive the robber would come down to get back to this street and took out his gun before slowing to go into that alley. Before he could turn into the alley, he heard a grunt and a body hitting the floor.
Confused, he carefully stepped into the alley with his gun raised and met a most unusual sight. There in the middle of the alley was the robber lying on the ground, the bag of money and his gun laying several feet away. He was trying to move and failing miserably.
This was where the sight got strange. There, laying on his back, was a St. Bernard. The St. Bernard’s tongue was hanging out of its mouth and it looked quite pleased with itself.
Just then Ashley came into the alley from the other side with his own gun raised. “What the?” Ashley questioned, as he slowed to a stop, just staring at the scene.
“I have no idea,” John responded, looking at the dog on the back of the robber. It was giving him a look of ‘well are you coming over here or not so I can get off of him?‘
“Right, cover me,” John requested and Ashley raised his gun again as John put his gun back in its holster and took out his handcuffs. He quickly went over to the suspect and grabbed his arms, looking at the dog when it didn’t move after he did so. The St. Bernard got the message and climbed off the robber’s back as John moved the man’s hands behind his back. He read him his rights as he lifted the robber off the ground and Ashley called in their capture, picking up the gun and money bag with a pair of gloves so that he did not tamper with the evidence.
The dog trotted off before they began to leave the alley.
“Goodbye,” John called sarcastically.
